Youth Tour & Leadership Camp
Youth Leadership Camp
During this week long camp in July students travel to Clark, CO (near Steamboat Springs). There they have
the opportunity to be educated on how co-ops work and what is going on in the electric energy industry. Highlights
include a trip to Craig Station, the largest coal-fired electric generating plant in Colorado as well as a trip to
the Trapper Coal Mine which supplies Craig.
Each local cooperative has its own qualifications for participation in the Leadership Camp. If you are interested
in attending the camp contact your local electric cooperative.
Youth Tour
In June, more than 1,000 high school students from around the country spend a week in the nation’s capital as
part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour. The students are sponsored by their
local electric cooperatives. Wyoming cooperatives are committed to educating the youth about America and the role
electric cooperatives play in their communities.
While in Washington, D.C. students who participate on the tour learn about electric cooperatives, American history
and government. Youth Tour participants fly to Washington where they meet and visit with their representatives in
the House and the Senate. Students also visit historic sites in Washington, D.C. – the Lincoln &
Jefferson Memorials, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian, and many more.
To find out how you can become eligible to participate in Youth Tour contact your local electric cooperative.
