Scholarships
The objective of these scholarships is to encourage and educate lineworkers for enduring and rewarding careers with Wyoming’s electric cooperatives.
As part of their commitment to the community, most Wyoming cooperatives offer scholarships to students in their service territories. To find out more about local scholarship opportunities, contact your co-op.
Cody Hotline School
The Cody Hotline School is a week-long training program in Cody that promotes safe working habits for utility line workers. Put on by Wyoming’s rural electric cooperatives, the school combines classroom training with field work to help attendees perform their jobs with a higher level of excellence.

WREA Linemen Scholarship
The WREA Linemen Scholarship offers scholarships each year to one or more individuals, including recent high school graduates, who are interested in a career as a lineworker and plan to attend an approved regional lineworker training program.
To be considered, applicants must submit the application form, a resume describing education and work experience, three letters of recommendation, and a transcript of grades. (If the candidate has not attended an educational institution in the three years prior to submitting the application, the transcript is not necessary.)
Candidates must submit their application to WREA no later than March 1st.

Adkins Linemen Scholarship
Bill and Toni Adkins established the Adkins Linemen Scholarship in memory of their son Neil, who was killed in an automobile accident in June 2009 soon after beginning his career as a lineworker. The scholarship offers $500 to one individual who plans to attend an approved regional lineworker program. Bill and Toni hope this scholarship will help a deserving student achieve a successful career in the electric industry.
To be considered, applicants must submit the application form, two letters of recommendation from teachers or employers, and a transcript of grades.
Candidates must submit their application to the WREA no later than March 1st.

Dar Hackworth Linemen Scholarship
The WREA Suppliers group created the Dar Hackworth Linemen Scholarship in 2006 in memory of Dar Hackworth, an electrical lineworker with Garland Light & Power. The scholarship offers $1,000 to up to three students who plan to attend an approved regional lineworker training program.
To be considered, applicants must submit the application form, two letters of recommendation from teachers or employers, and a transcript of grades.
Candidates must submit their application to the WREA Suppliers Group no later than March 1st.

Youth Programs
Youth Tour
In June, more than 1,300 high school students from around the country spend a week in Washington D.C. as part of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour. While in the nation’s capitol, students learn about American history, our nation’s government, and the role electric cooperatives play in communities across the country. Students also get the chance to enjoy historical sites and visit with their state representatives in the House and Senate.
Each year, the WREA sponsors three Wyoming students to attend, and local cooperatives have the opportunity to sponsor additional students.

Youth Leadership Camp
During this week-long camp in July, students have the opportunity to learn about how co-ops operate and about the latest developments in the electric industry.
Each cooperative has its own qualifications for participation in the camp. If you are interested in attending, contact your local cooperative.
